Crapsons – Half-Time Executions [EP Review]

As a punk band you seem to have two options; get pissed off about politics or let your inner child write. Crapsons’ latest EP, Half-Time Executions, dishes out some good, honest punk rock with the latter.

Featuring classic topics as Football, social media annoyances and that neighbour who’s “just a fucking twat”, we have the lighter hearted side of relatable than we have recently seen.

Crapsons don’t do anything to rock the boat (no pun intended?), just some solid, fun music. My itch for crispy basslines are satisfied, the riffs are chunky and Spoiler Alert plays the role of being that song that gets annoyingly stuck in your head. It’s safe to say plenty gets packed into these 13 minutes.

Blending moderate aggression with some brighter tones and upbeat melodies, no element is pushed too far, nor is it too bland. Half-Time Executions is simply one of those releases that don’t demand any attention whatsoever to sweep you away with what it has to offer, managing to pull off a great impression after the first listen.

Punk has made a strange resurgence recently with the likes of The Chats and Amyl and the Sniffers garnering plenty of attention in recent years, but you can easily forget about them with Crapsons’ plethora of consistently solid releases already under their belt and not losing the spark to their writing.

Crapsons aren’t out here trying to be the best, but they thoroughly deserve a place in your collection alongside the likes of Fuck! (It’s Pronounced Shit!) and Spinners; just punk bands doing their thing and doing it really well.
