Pilod – Anticipate The Fall [Single Review]

Pilod are finally back with a new album on the way, and this teaser is a promising start

2016’s Black Swan was an eerily beautiful album with a tightly controlled instrumentation mix that built a well crafted sound, and that is certainly still present with Anticipate The Fall.

Whilst at first glance the guitars may sound repetitive, the song has a really subtle build up throughout and no two sections truly sound the same. The energy carries the more unique structure as the song is allowed to breathe itself into life; the rhythm guitar perfectly complimenting the powerful bassline, and the lead allowed to drift off and do its own thing.

The song lyrics are, as perfectly describe by Pilod themselves, about letting go, riding the turbulence and coming back stronger. The music video takes a tongue-in-cheek spin of these lyrics in a video literally about learning to forward roll in a gymnasium. It is great to see the lighter-hearted side to the band, but ultimately it provides a slice of positivity that we all need sometimes.

Although Anticipate The Fall can feel like it ends prematurely, the art of Pilod has been knowing when a song is complete. The flow sounds completely natural, and as part of a full album I have no doubt it will hold its place perfectly.

As someone who isn’t usually a fan of the softer Indie rock sound, Pilod’s offering goes far beyond genre labels, and warrants repeat listens to really soak up the nuances to their writing and performances that make their music a captivating listen from start to finish.
