YO! I dropped off the face of the earth for a while there, making brief appearances for the personal requests that I got. What a better way to return than to do one of those obligatory “best of the year that has just done finished” posts.
One of the things that I tend to bang on about in reviews is my soft spot for DIY artists. Something about music that has been entirely recording in-house, self-mixed, self-mastered, self-released and promoted… I can’t help but see it in a more positive light.
I’m not bothered by the end of the year; lying to myself with “resolutions” for a “new year, new me” or being all soppy and reflective over a simple change in date. And for the most part, 2016 was filled with mass negativity and nationwide pissed-off-ness. However, 2016 wasn’t all that bad, for instance, here I am going to rattle off about the five albums that made me say “holy fuck, I love this” the most at some point ever the previous 31, 557, 600 seconds of our lives.
One of the things that I love the most about music is those moments that blow your mind wide open into a whole new way of listening to music. The perfect example is when I was 13, I had spent years adopting that opinion of “The heavier, the better”.
