I don’t know why but I have developed this habit of writing a weird introduction on reviews of which, aren’t entirely off topic, but are pretty much pointless. Now trying to think of how on earth I am supposed to open a review of El Yunque’s Boxes, I was even more stumped on what meaningful text I can fumble together. Experimental? That definitely describes it. But no single paragraph can give Boxes justice.
Mutation III – Dark Black [Album Review]
To summarise Mutation III in a sentence: My fucking speaker wire packed in because of this album.
Top 5 Albums of 2016
I’m not bothered by the end of the year; lying to myself with “resolutions” for a “new year, new me” or being all soppy and reflective over a simple change in date. And for the most part, 2016 was filled with mass negativity and nationwide pissed-off-ness. However, 2016 wasn’t all that bad, for instance, here I am going to rattle off about the five albums that made me say “holy fuck, I love this” the most at some point ever the previous 31, 557, 600 seconds of our lives.
Suicidal Tendencies – World Gone Mad [Album Review]
Suicidal Tendencies are one of those bands who released a debut album that I absolutely adore, but then all of the following albums just didn’t do a thing for me. That was until 1999 when Freedumb came out. Since then, each album that I have heard has pleased me immensely, World Gone Mad included.

Mums – Land Of Giants [Album Review]
There have been a few albums that I have bought this year, going into them with little to no previous knowledge, and coming away with a new addiction. Land Of Giants has been the final one of 2016 for me.
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra – Broken Lines [Album Review]
“Supergroups” are one of those things that a lot of people get excited about; musicians from some of your favourite bands teaming together to bang out an album and sneak a tour in. I find it best not to get over excited, especially after the recent Gone Is Gone album not being as “full on” as the initially released song. Killer Be Killed, on the other hand, was an example of this scenario hitting every spot. Giraffe Tongue Orchestra’s Broken Lines is almost at that same level. Almost.

Talking Bollocks #1 – The Effects Of Music
One of the things that I love the most about music is those moments that blow your mind wide open into a whole new way of listening to music. The perfect example is when I was 13, I had spent years adopting that opinion of “The heavier, the better”. As much as I love some of those bands (Spineshank, Murderdolls and Raging Speedhorn, to name a few), some of the music I was coming across was just dull and didn’t really do anything for me.Continue reading “Talking Bollocks #1 – The Effects Of Music”
Missiles of October – Better Days [Album Review]
One of my favourite things about reviewing music: being introduced to a band that you would never have otherwise come into contact with who sit very nicely within your tastes. I have huge soft spots for anything that is filthy and unpredictable, two boxes of which are thoroughly ticked and pissed all over in Better Days.

Cocaine Piss – The Dancer [Album Review]
If the name doesn’t sell you, this may not be the album for you.
Barque – Coffin Cutters [EP Review]

I can’t say that I have ever really listened to much in the way of “Dark Hardcore”, I find that I zone out too easily when listening to more dredge-along music, that feels more about being heavy for the sake of it, but bands like Barque seem to put up a divide, adding more of a shine into the music, albeit a shine in what is still pretty fucking dark.
