I don’t know why but I have developed this habit of writing a weird introduction on reviews of which, aren’t entirely off topic, but are pretty much pointless. Now trying to think of how on earth I am supposed to open a review of El Yunque’s Boxes, I was even more stumped on what meaningful text I can fumble together. Experimental? That definitely describes it. But no single paragraph can give Boxes justice.

Mums – Land Of Giants [Album Review]
There have been a few albums that I have bought this year, going into them with little to no previous knowledge, and coming away with a new addiction. Land Of Giants has been the final one of 2016 for me.
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra – Broken Lines [Album Review]
“Supergroups” are one of those things that a lot of people get excited about; musicians from some of your favourite bands teaming together to bang out an album and sneak a tour in. I find it best not to get over excited, especially after the recent Gone Is Gone album not being as “full on” as the initially released song. Killer Be Killed, on the other hand, was an example of this scenario hitting every spot. Giraffe Tongue Orchestra’s Broken Lines is almost at that same level. Almost.

One of my favourite things about reviewing music: being introduced to a band that you would never have otherwise come into contact with who sit very nicely within your tastes. Following the release of their book, The Hepititus Bathtub, NoFX have hit us with album 13, a more personal effort following some of the topics raised in their biography. Typically, at this point in a band’s lifetime the music tends to mellow out and lose its edge, but First Ditch Effort is far from this.
