It’s inevitable that when you review one band, similar bands will find your post and send you their music. Somehow I have a slew of this weird indie-fuzz headed my way. I don’t know how, but it always sounds surprisingly fresh and interesting.
Regular readers will know that we like Lovely Wife and have written about their live EP, Live & Contrived, that was released earlier this year. It was great to have the essence of their live performances captured, as in the studio their sound isn’t the easiest to re-create. Problem Rock has certainly tackled that problem head on with a Sledgesaw (Dead Rising reference right there).
I have been sent a lot of music that blends two strong styles from different genres of music, which is always something that ends up being a dangerous game with who it appeals to and what it actually pulls off well. Soul Fire Saints have stepped up the game and stand out for all the right reasons.

Vultures are one of those bands whose name I have seen in passing but never actually heard anything that they have produced. I had no idea what to expect from this one, which tends to be all the more exciting to dig into.
When Qoheleth described their music as noise rock… Fuck me, I didn’t expect this.

Albums jump out at you for different reasons; some because they appear to hit so many of your sweet spots, others because they are slathered with bizarrely intriguing weirdness. By way of uncreative writing, you have probably guessed that this is very much the latter.
Buzz Rodeo are officially the first band that we are giving our second review to, so let’s step up our game and get super critical on their second album!
I find more often than not that the lead in descriptions that come with the music I am sent doesn’t really mean a lot, especially once I have given the material a couple of listens. In this case, I was actually drawn in and got really excited to give The J Spot a listen. Unfortunately, 8 times out of 10 excitement turns into let down.
Instrumental bands are another one of those areas of music that I find to be extremely hit or miss. I am fond of bands like Maybeshewill and That Fucking Tank, but when it comes to more established artists like Mogwai… well I like the music, but something about it doesn’t captivate me as much as it should. However, Closet Disco Queen are right up there in my opinion.

Swiss instrumental psychedelic rockers Closet Disco Queen, formed by members of Coilguns and The Ocean, have announced a new EP entitled “Sexy Audio Deviance For Punk Bums”. The three-track EP is set for release on April 7th through Crazysane Records, Division Records and Unquiet Records and further continues the duo’s exploration of 70s instrumental and progressive kraut-rock started on their 2015’s self-titled debut.
